Sony to support PS4 indie development with Unity, GameMaker: Studio and MonoGame
Sony has announced it will further strengthen its support for independent developers by introducing more tool and middleware solutions for the PlayStation 4.
Sony plans to implement extra support through a "strategic partnership" with middleware vendor GameMaker:Studio and MonoGame development tools.
Fully integrated solutions for Unity are now available for PS3 and Vita and an early access version for PS4 will release in April.
GameMaker: Studio is a native solution for PS4 developed jointly by SCE and YoYo Games, and is available for free to all SCE-licensed developers.
Games such as Hyper Light Drifter, Samurai Gunn, Risk of Rain, Home and Nuclear Throne were converted from PC to PS4 using GameMaker: Studio.
MonoGame makes up the C#-based open sourced engine suite available for licensed developers and was first used in the development of Matt Makes Games' Towerfall: Ascension for PS4. It will also be used to bring Mercenary Kings and Transistor to PS4 in the upcoming months.
