For the quarter ending September 30 2015, Sony highlighted a “significant" sales increase in the Games & Network Services division of which PlayStation is a part.

Notably, it called out “an increase in PlayStation 4 software sales”.

This happy increase was offset by a decline in PlayStation 3 software sales, and fluctuating currencies cut into Sony’s profit line. In total, the Game & Network division saw a 19.4% year-on-year increase in sales and operating revenue to ¥360.7 billion ($3 billion).

This included a modest 4.8% increase in hardware sales, but a huge 56.8% jump in network sales. This category includes the PlayStation Store and the wider Sony Entertainment Network, though.

Sony shipped 4 million PS4 units to retailers during Q2, bringing global total shipments to over 29 million to date. The company is predicting it will have shipped 17.5 million PS4 consoles by the end of the financial year.

In general, Sony posted sales and operating revenue of ¥1,892.7 billion. This is a year-on-year decrease, but the company managed an operating income of ¥88 billion, which is much better than the ¥85.6 billion loss on the same period one year ago.
