Sony patents weird sound-light controller thing

Someone on NeoGAF's dug up some pictures of a new Sony controller patent, depicting a device that wouldn't look out of place in a "special internet video."
Apparently it uses a mix of light and sound to determine distance, and so on, and includes an accelerometer for motion detection.
Squillions of people have been touting this as the break-apart PS3 controller talked about about earlier this year.
