Sony introduces engine for PSP to PS3 HD ports

Sony has revealed the new engine that has been powering their HD remake ports of classic PSP games onto the PS3.

The engine serves as a middle ground that bridges the coding gap between the PSP and the PS3, making it easier for developers to create HD versions of the original software.

Sony says the engine provides them with easy paths for high res graphics, control with analogue sticks and Dual Shock controllers, 3D stereoscopic output, ad-hoc Party unification, main memory and graphic memory expansion, common save data.

This is the engine powering upcoming ports like Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker and Monster Hunter 3rd.
