Sony E3 2016 Press Conference Recap: Resident Evil 7, Hideo Kojima's New Game, and More
There weren't a lot of big surprises at Sony's press conference outside of Resident Evil 7 and a naked Norman Reedus in the trailer for Kojima's new game, but we still saw some cool stuff.

Sony's E3 2016 press didn't pop nearly as many heads as 2015's press conference, but we still got a good look at some of the titles we can expect for the remainder of 2016 going into 2017.
Resident Evil 7 looks truly shiver-inducing, a far-cry from Resident Evil 6's running and gunning. Hideo Kojima has ... something in the works. PlayStation VR is coming this fall. All in all, a solid show from Sony. No new footage for the Final Fantasy VII remake, though. [Sniffle]

God of War
The gameplay footage for the God of War reboot shows off Papa Kratos (or someone like him -- he has Kratos' temper, in any case) as he teaches his red-haired boy to hunt. Kratos won't be up for any father of the year awards, as he easily loses his temper when the kid screws up a shot. The two are ambushed by a troll while chasing their quarry, and Kratos has to teach his charge on the fly before they're crushed. The world's mythology is based on the Norse Gods this time around, not the Greek Gods. Either way, there's carnage a-plenty, and the two have a bonding moment as they kill a deer. Who needs baseball? No release date for this one yet.
Days Gone
The short trailer for Days Gone shows a land that's run down and filled with the dead. The protagonist broods over the past while he rides around the ruins on a motorcycle. Motorcycles: Always there to make you feel better, even at the end of the world. A gameplay demo shown at the end of Sony's presentation shows off overgrown weeds and run-down structures as the main character hunts down a person of interest, defending himself from feral animals -- and feral people -- while he searches. There are zombies. Lots of zombies.
The Last Guardian
It lives! We saw a new trailer for The Last Guardian, which makes an interesting revelation: There's more than one griffin-monster, and the interloper isn't friendly. There's no way everyone's getting out of this adventure alive. The Last Guardian is coming on October 25.
Horizon Zero Dawn
We got to see some gameplay footage for Horizon Zero Dawn, the third-person adventure game populated by animals that are half-flesh, half-machine. Our heroine hunts some of these "corrupted machines" in a time that's so far away from our own, there are practically no memories of it. She uses traps to subdue her quarry and collect important components. She even rides her own animal-hybrid while hunting, and loads it down like a pack-mule. I want one. No release date yet.
Detroit: Become Human
Some pretty cool conflicts between human emotions and mechanical android instincts in this trailer, as an android cop negotiates for the life of a young human hostage. The situations you wind up in are hugely impacted by the decisions you make. Strong Pluto vibes, here.
Resident Evil 7: Biohazard
Resident Evil 7 was reportedly going to return to its horror roots, and Resident Evil 7 does exactly that with a whole lot of creepy imagery. Giant roaches and centipedes are horrible in any context. Oh, and there's PlayStation VR support if you want it. Of course you do, right? Resident Evil 7: Biohazard is coming on January 24, 2017. Will this fill the hole left behind by the cancellation of Silent Hills?
PlayStation VR
PlayStation VR comes to the PlayStation 4 on October 13, 2017, for $399 USD. Exclusive games supported by the headset includes FarPoint, an alien-battling game that takes place on a hostile planet, and Star Wars Battlefront: X-Wing VR Mission.
Batman: Arkham VR
Batman's good times in Arkham Asylum are coming exclusively to PlayStation VR in October 2016.
Final Fantasy XV
The latest trailer for Final Fantasy XV shows Noctis fighting Behemoths, Eidolons, and slinging spells like a true Final Fantasy hero. You can also hear the new Chocobo theme -- did you catch it? Final Fantasy XV is coming on September 30 2016. Final Fantasy XV: VR Experience is also on its way. Get your face right up against a Cactaur's. See what happens.
Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare
Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare takes place ages in the future, but the sound of confusing radio chatter punctuating rattling gunfire is timeless. The latest gameplay trailer shows off plenty of action in space vehicles, as well as on solid ground. Whether on terra firma or miles away from Earth itself, you can always count on humans to get into a scrap. Coming November 4, 2016.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered
Guns, helicopters, night fighting, blazing wreckage lighting up the night. Re-live it all again.
Crash Bandicoot in Skylanders Imaginators
The Skylanders are welcoming Crash Bandicoot into their ranks, plus his old games are being re-mastered from the ground-up for the PlayStation 4. It's not an all-new Crash adventure, but it ain't not bad either. Look for Skylanders Imaginators in October.
Lego Star Wars The Force Awakens
It's Lego, it's The Force Awakens, all wrapped up in a cute sense of humor, like a big plastic burrito. Look for it in a couple of weeks.
Death Stranding
Hideo Kojima came on-stage to tell us he's back, and to show us the debut trailer for his new game, Death Stranding. It features a naked Norman Reedus cradling a baby in a pit of black sand while tiny figures loom on the far-off horizon. Yep, Kojima's back, all right. What would we do without you, Mr Kojima?
Spider-Man PS4
A very brief trailer for a new Spider-Man game, featuring no iteration of Spider-Man that I'm familiar with. The web-slinger set the bar for licensed games sky-high with Spider-Man 2 on the PlayStation 2; how will he fare on the PlayStation 4?
