Sony digital boss hints PlayStation Network may expand to other devices

Microsoft's going to let you use your smartphone to control your Xbox 360, and Sony's Jack Buser hasn't ruled out the possibility of PlayStation platforms becoming similarly mobile-friendly.

Speaking to Gamasutra at E3, the PlayStation digital platforms director extolled the importance of PlayStation Mobile and Sony's newly-announced HTC partnership.

“You’re seeing the very early stages of what will be the future of this industry," he said.

Asked whether PlayStation Mobile - a platform for certified Android devices and Vita - could expand to connect with the PlayStation 3, Buser said he had nothing to announce, but did offer a warm hint.

“I think you can expect to see us take this notion of the PlayStation Network connecting an ecosystem of devices together forward in the future,” he said.

Whatever Sony's plans are, Buser is clear about his goals.

“It’s truly the gamer that drives our industry, that drives our business as a platform holder,” he emphasised.

“If you don’t have that center in this industry, you’re quickly going to lose the plot.”
