Sony appoints new chief financial officer as Kato departs role

Sony has appointed a new chief financial officer to replace current CFO Masaru Kato, who departs the firm on April 1.

GI.biz reports that Kenichiro Yoshida will take the CFO position, while Kato will move on to become Sony's vice chairman, a role that will see him focus on overseas endeavours, particularly in the Chinese market.

Yoshida became Sony's chief strategy officer in November and subsequently held a deputy CFO role. The swap comes as Sony's most-recent financials paint a grim view of the company's non-gaming divisions, while PS4 continues to perform exceedingly well for the firm.

Elsewhere, Sony is tidying house by laying off a number of staff at several studios, including Sony Santa Monica Studio, Guerrilla Cambridge and Evolution Studios.
