SOE's Smedley: Planetside 2 to be free-to-play
Sony Online Entertainment head John Smedley has confirmed that Planetside 2 will be free-to-play in some form.
Smedley revealed the news to Chinese site 17173.com, but was further backed up to Planetside-Universe when certain bits of info was lost in translation.
Details of how F2P will work in the MMOFPS are still to be determined, though, but dropped League of Legends as a hint.
"The game will be F2P. What form will it be? We're still working that out. But here's a hint - we like League of Legends a lot," he said.
Smedley also added in terms of a timeline for a beta, it would be either by the end of this year or early next year, saying it'll be "ready when it's ready and we are proud of it."
Don't expect an auction house similar to that being introduced by Blizzard in Diablo III for PS2 neither, according to the SOE boss, citing a mistranslation in the original Chinese interview.
No full release date has been confirmed for the game as yet.
