Over 7,000 Sniper Elite 3 PC keys were stolen, resold codes revoked - statement

Sniper Elite 3 developer Rebellion has offered an explanation as to why several owners of the PC version suddenly found their game deactivated.

We produced a full report on exactly what happened to many Sniper Elite 3 PC keys, but the short version is that many who purchased a key from third-party sites had their game deactivated by Rebellion.

The reason? Over 7,000 Sniper Elite 3 keys had been stolen and then resold without authorisation from Rebellion. Apparently, keys purchased from some 50 third-party retailers have now been revoked.

A statement sent to VG247 reads, "We now know that a total of 7050 Sniper Elite 3 keys were compromised. It is only these keys that have been revoked.

"To clarify, aside from Steam itself, digital keys for Sniper Elite 3 can be bought from the below list of licensed partners. We can confirm that we have not revoked any keys sent to these companies, nor have they reported any problems to us. This is the full list of companies that get their keys direct from us for digital sale – we do not sell to anyone else."
