SNES Classic Sells 2 Million Worldwide, Will Continue Shipping "Moving Forward"

Nintendo continues its streak. Earlier today there was a great financial earnings report and the news that Super Mario Odyssey sold 2 million copies worldwide in only 3 days. Within the same materials that offered up the latter information, we also have an update on the sales of the Super Nintendo Entertainment System: Super NES Classic Edition.
Since launch, the SNES Classic has sold 2 million units worldwide. Even better, Nintendo believes that the SNES Classic will lead consumers back to the Switch, so the system will continue shipping.
"The Super Nintendo Entertainment System: Super NES Classic Edition has reached a sell-through of 2 million units worldwide, at latest tallies," said Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima in the presentation. "The expectation is that the chance to interact with video games for those who either haven't done so in a long while or those who never have will lead to a greater appreciation for our newest gaming console, Nintendo Switch. The Super Nintendo Entertainment System: Super NES Classic Edition will continue to ship moving forward."
In other news, the NES Classic was already announced for a return to store shelves after Nintendo discontinued the system last year. Nintendo has revealed that the system will be returning in 2018. During it's previous production run, the system sold 2.3 million units, according to Time.
"As has been announced already, a decision has been reached to resume production of the Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition in 2018. We are hoping that consumers eager to purchase this system will wait just a short while longer," said Kimishima.
