Sledgehammer's cancelled third-person shooter was set in Vietnam, had some "Dead Space moments"

Remember that third-person action adventure Call of Duty title that Sledgehammer Games was working on when it signed with Activision? We certainly do. Sledgehammer Games has now opened up a bit about it to Game Informer.

Speaking to Game Informer (via Gamespot), as part of their Advanced Warfare cover story, developer Sledgehammer Games said that the game took place during the Vietnam War, particularly the US "Secret War" in Cambodia.

Glen Schofield, Sledgehammer co-founder said, "We had spent six or eight months on it, and were really getting into the story. We had some really cool mechanics. We had a big moment that I would love to get into a game someday, but it's not something we could do in first-person."

The game apparently had about 15 minutes of playable content before the studio ultimately dropped it in favour of working with Infinity Ward on Modern Warfare 3.

"It was part of our culture that we were all gonna make that decision together. We would have loved to make that [third-person] game. It was in a space that we enjoyed, but how does anything compare to the first-person blockbuster release of 2011?" he added.
