According to Sweeney, via The Verge, he is a huge Shenmue fan and the artwork he's created is both licensed by SEGA and hand-numbered by the artist.

The scene in the painting depicts the moment after Ryo's father Iwao is killed.

"In the game the scene stops with Ryo cradling Iwao and screaming 'No!'" said Sweeney in a statement. "I wanted to imagine a shot where Ryo is standing just outside the dojo where is father was just killed. It is cold and very early in the morning. Snow is falling. The morning light is still weak and only some of the wood interior is catching light from the outside.

"Ryo's pose already hints at him seeking revenge."

Those interested in buying a print can do so through Cook & Becker. There are 100 copies size 80 x 40cm available, as well as eight 120 x 62 cm pieces ranging from $99 and up.

The Shenmue 3 Kickstarter has now earned $4.5 million with nine days on the clock. It was recently revealed via a search of all Kickstarter projects that Shenmue 3 was the tenth most funded to-date.
