PayPal backers of Shenmue 3 to miss out on Kickstarter-exclusive rewards
Those who backed Shenmue 3 through PayPal won't be receiving Kickstarter-exclusive rewards due to a poll taken by Ys Net.
According to an update on the game's Kickstarter page, the results of the poll held last year asking whether or not Kickstarter Exclusive Rewards should be made available for PayPal backers were the determining factor.
The poll was posted on December 24 and voting ending on January 1, 2016 with those who pledged $5 or more through Kickstarter eligible to vote. Per Ys Net, out of the 68,533 eligible Kickstarter Backers only 15,110 responded.
4,670 of the respondents voted "yes" to offering the rewards to PayPal backers, while 4,009 respondents answered "no."
The third voter option "either is fine with me", garnered the most votes with 6,432 total. So, it appears Ys Net took these into account when deciding not to give the PayPal backers said Kickstarter-exclusive rewards.
"Considering the strong response from those of you who felt that the Exclusive Rewards should remain exclusive for the Kickstarter, those Exclusive Rewards will not be made available on the PayPal page as originally promised," the developer said.
Those who pledged on PayPal will still receive backer rewards for the tier they pledged to - just not the Kickstarter-exclusive goodies.
Shenmue 3 has raised close to $202,000 through PayPal as of press time, which puts the game's crowdfunding total at $6,535,037 when factoring in the $6.3 pledged through Kickstarter.
The game is slated for release on PS4 and PC in 2017.
