Update: Square Enix has confirmed that Shadow of the Tomb Raider will release on September 14, for Xbox One, PS4, and PC. The full reveal will take place on April 27. The announcement, and trailer you can see just below, follow yesterday's unfortunately timed leak.
Original Story: Shadow of the Tomb Raider looks set to be releasing a lot sooner than anyone perhaps thought, as the countdown website for the reveal of the game has accidentally leaked the release date for the third game in the ‘reboot’ Tomb Raider trilogy. Oops!
The release date for Shadow of the Tomb Raider is slated to be September 14, 2018, according to the source code for the website that was used to tease the official reveal of the game. The website was counting down to the official reveal of the game, which we knew about from last year, thanks to a Square Enix employee opening a PowerPoint presentation on the subway.
Other than the release date, concrete details for Shadow of the Tomb Raider are sparse right now. We’ll expect to know more when the timer on the teaser website expires on March 15 around 6 am PST/9 am EST, but there’s is also some art work to go on for the game, that NeoGAF user NeoRaider found on an ad agency’s website.
The art for Shadow of the Tomb Raider doesn’t give a whole lot away, but we can see pyramids in the background, hinting at a possible South American adventure. Other than that, we can see Lara in peril, but when hasn’t she been in peril over the course of the last two Tomb Raider games.
Rise of the Tomb is now on Xbox Gamepass, so you can try it out before the final part of the trilogy hits later this year. Additionally, there’s also a Tomb Raider 2 fan remake demo available online, remade in the Unreal Engine.
