Shadow of the Eternals adds Kickstarter campaign to crowdfunding effort
Like Star Citizen before it, Shadow of the Eternals has opened a Kickstarter campaign in addition to its self-managed crowdfunding platform.
Primary fundraising for Shadow of the Eternals - a spiritual successor to Silicon Knights' classic Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem - is being handled through a dedicated website, but has now opened a second channel for pledges.
Interestingly, the Kickstarter campaign is asking for $1.35 million, while the original campaign requested $1.5 million; apparently, Precursor Games is still certain it requires the full $1.5 million, but left off the $150,000 it has already raised through its own site.
However, the platform switch does introduce an element of risk; on its own site, Precursor said it would keep pledges even if the funding goal was not met, but on Kickstarter, it doesn't have that option.
As with its own platform, the Kickstarter campaign offers an extensive list of backer rewards, including copies of later episodes, although this donation drive will only fund the first. View the pitch video below.
If all goes well, the first episode of Shadow of the Eternals is expected in the third quarter of 2014, on PC and Wii U.
Former Silicon Knights boss Denis Dyack is creative director of Precursor Games. Silicon Knights remains open, but reportedly with a skeleton staff only. Precursor purchased some assets from the beleaguered company but the two studios insist there's no other connection between them.
