Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice trailer gives us a glimpse of The Wolf's origin

The newest Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice trailer sheds more light on the brutality of the Sengoku Era.

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice was revealed at E3 2018 and is set during the “Warring States” period in Japanese history. The latest cinematic trailer delves deeper into the conflict, as well as fleshing out the protagonist's backstory a bit more.

The trailer shows him being taken under the wing of what appears to be a warlord, after being found kneeling amongst the corpses on a battlefield.

Referred to as "stray" and "starving wolf," the scene flashes forward to the in-game present, showing The Wolf and his mentor, who's either giving him grief for the man he's become, or expressing some measure of approval. Either way, The Wolf is definitely a force to be reckoned with by the sounds of it.

The protagonist in From Software's latest title won't be the studio's traditional silent type.

"We’re trying to tell more of a drama, if you will, of these characters,” said marketing and communications manager Yasuhiro Kitao. "He’ll say a few things here and there, but yeah, he won’t bore you to tears with constant monologues."

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is out March 22 on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. You can find out more about the gameplay, new combat mechanics, and pre-order options right here.
