Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice may not have multiplayer, but it at least features a pause button
Unlike the Souls games, From Software's Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice won't feature online multiplayer because the game's "very much its own thing."
Speaking in the February issue of Game Informer, From Software's Yasuhiro Kitao said while Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice won't feature the mode, the team may revisit idiosyncratic-style multiplayer with future titles.
“Of course, we at From, we love those online elements,” said, Kitao, From Software's manager of communications and marketing.
“We love to create our own characters just as much as everyone else. We hope players are looking forward to something in the future where we might go back to that, but for now, Sekiro is very much its own thing.”
Being unable to invade another's game also made things a bit easier on the development team. Without the competent, From Software no longer needed to figure out how "players would operate with one another" on the maps or "exploit the playspace" in cooperation.
"It allows us to hone in on the player experience, capitalize on that lack of restriction, and let our imagination run wild in these places," he added.
While the lack of multiplayer may disappoint some, Sekiro will have something many Souls players (who don't own Switch) have longed for: a pause button. That's some good news at least.
During E3 2018 it was revealed Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice wouldn't feature stats to level up with experience. You also won't collect new weapons or armor during play. Instead, players will find power-ups and equipment in the environment.
If you head over to Game Informer website, you can also read up on how character progression will work without stats. The site will also post exclusive content on the game all month, which means you'll want to keep checking back.
Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice releases March 22 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
