SEGA reports 41% increase in revenue for first half of fiscal year
SEGA has posted its financials for the first half of its fiscal year, ending Septemer 30, and it finds the company reporting ¥217.8 billion ($2.7 billion) in revenue, which is a 41 percent increase year-on-year.
As far as profits went, that was up as well with ¥24.3 billion ($301.2 million) reported, compared to last year's loss of ¥6.32 billion ($78.3 million). The high figures can be attributed to the firm's pachislot and pachinko businesses.
However, the sector of the company that makes videogames saw firm domestic sales but things were slow in the western marketplace. For the reporting period, total sales came in at ¥38.9 billion ($482.2 million), which is up by 3 percent compared to 2009. Total game units sold out of 33 titles for the fiscal half came in at 6.6 million copies with 3.2 million sold in the US, 2.15 million in Europe and 1.24 million in Japan and other regions.
Three standout titles for the company during the period were PSP games Kurohyo: Ryu ga Gotoku Shinsyo, (Black Panther: New Yakuza Chapter), which moved 250K units along with music games, Hatsune Miku: Project Diva 2nd and K-On Houkago Live, selling 340K and 210K units, respectively.
