SD's Wedgwood not worried over Brink reception despite new IP status
Splash Damage boss Paul Wedgwood has said he isn't worried about Brink's launch as a new IP, telling VG247 it isn't an issue for the UK developer.
Speaking to us in the mountains of Park City, Utah on Wednesday, Wedgwood said IPs like Assassin's Creed, Mass Effect and Left 4 Dead had launched recently are now continuously played, adding a more recent example: two-month old Bulletstorm.
Launching new properties doesn't always go so smoothly, however. THQ released Homefront recently, and while it saw 1 million sales and shipped 2.4 million units, it's struggled critically: the game stands at 70 on Metacritic.
"Everything that we're playing right now that people really enjoy playing - Mass Effect, Assassins Creed, Left 4 Dead - these were all new IPs less than three years ago, so it really isn't something that bothers me greatly at all," said Wedgwood.
"And in that same period you're talking about, we've also had Bulletstorm come out. So I don't think it's really an issue for us."
Wedgwood continued: "We've got a great publisher that knows how to handle new intellectual property that is prepared to throw really cool events like this where everyone can just chill out, have a good time and play the game and there's none of that corporate stuff that you expect to see.
"There's very little if any PR talk at any Bethesda event that I've ever been to. It's just here, 'here's these really cool, good quality game experiences. Come and play them and tell us what you think.'"

Brink releases on May 10 in the US and May 13 in the UK for PS3, 360 and PC. New media is here.
