Scottish game designers to showcase new projects at 'Drop in and Play' event this weekend

A selection of Scottish game designers will be giving the public access to their latest projects at this year's Drop in and Play showcase, as part of the NEoN festival in Dundee. It all kicks off this weekend.

In a press release sent to VG247 today, NEoN organisers at Abertay University and Quartic Llama confirmed that this year's Drop in and Play showcase would be held at the Dundee Contemporary Arts centre on Saturday, November 9.

Showcasing at the event is Lucky Frame, which has seen success with its Victorian brawler Gentlemen! It will also show off its new title ROFLpillar. THe studio is joined by Space Budgie, which is bringing its puzzle title Glitchspace to the show, along with 9.03m, which is the the studio's response to the tsunami that rocked Japan in 2011.

Future Fossil will be there with High Steaks!, a game that promotes healthy eating to kids, while Denki will showcase its new title Monster Force 5, along with Quartic Llama's game Other.

Finally, Fife-based developer Michael Brough will be showing off his as-yet unreleased titles Smesport and Helix.

Quartic Llama artist Malath Abbas said in a statement, "Drop in and Play is a great opportunity to meet the public and show them off our latest projects. It’s the ultimate test to see if a game is fun when people get the chance to play and give you feedback! Likewise we get to talk about our games and share our creative process and explain how the magic happens.”

Director of the DCA Clive Gillman added, "This has been a really exciting event for us over the last couple of years and this year promises to bring together some even bigger names in the world of indie-gaming to show their work. There's a real buzz and energy around this event that reflects the great games design work that is going on in the city and this year will definitely also have a few fun surprises in the games on show.”
