Samurai Warriors 4 trailers highlight Okuni, Goemon and Musashi
Samurai Warriors 4 has the largest cast the series has produced to date, but today's spotlight hones in on three familiar faces - the Kabuki founder Okuni, master thief Goemon Ishikawa, and the original master swordsman Miyamoto Musashi.
The Samurai Warriors series often pits Musashi as the "good guy" against his rival, Sasaki Kojiro. Legend has it Musashi beat Kojiro to death with a wooden sword he had carved from an oar that morning, which is a somewhat ignoble way to go.
Okuni often comes across as comic relief in the Omega Force interpretation, but this priestess of Izumo founded Kabuki as well as being known for taking the p**s out of romance in her comedic song and dance routines. She battles with a parasol and gives zero shits what you think of that.
Ishikawa Goemon is another "funny" character, with his over the top antics, club and arm cannon. He's often compared to Robin Hood, with a similar mythos of half-truths built up around a real outlaw. Omega Force often teams him up with or against Okuni, perhaps because he's so celebrated in Kabuki.
Samurai Warriors 4 arrived in Japan on PS3 and Vita last week, but we're hopeful it will come west eventually - perhaps on PS4, since Dynasty Warriors 8: Xtreme Legends has made the jump, and arrives over the next week or two in North America and Europe.
Thanks, Siliconera.
