Samurai Warriors 4 Empires pre-order bonuses detailed, new gameplay trailers released
Bonus content will be made available to those who pre-order Samurai Warriors 4 Empires.
Koei Tecmo announced the incentive today along with the release of two video showing new characters as well as the game’s battle system.
The bonus pre-order content comes with the following: an additional castle option, the Golden Castle, the Osaka Campaign scenario and an additional costume for in-game character Takakage Kobayakawa.
It also comes with an exclusive costume for Lady Hayakawa.
In North America, the aforementioned content will be made available to those who pre-order the game through Amazon, Best Buy, EB Canada and GameStop.
Those who reside in Europe will get the same content when pre-ordering through independent retailers; however, only PSN and GAME pre-orders in the region will contain the Lady Hayakawa alternate outfit.
Now, about those videos.
Both gameplay videos detail some of the options available in battle preparation and while on the battlefield. Battle preparation includes choosing which of the tactics or formations "proposed by the magistrates to deploy prior to battle."
Here's word straight from the developer:
- Tactics can be either basic (i.e. Troop economy, Blocking enemy Aid, or taking action to increase troop strength prior to engagement), deployed before battle, or executable (i.e. Cavalry Charge, Officer Capture Etc), deployed during battle.
- Formations affect the way the army is structured and offer relevant bonuses on attack, defence, or speed. A well thought out, balanced strategy is essential when choosing formations, as the enemy could use opposing formations to overrun player troops.
Battles will follow the classic Empires-style of "Base Battles" and by claiming enemy bases and turning them into allied bases, players can establish supply lines linking together strongholds on the battlefield. They can also claim chains of enemy bases by cutting off supply lines and isolating them.
An enemy base positioned in between two allied bases will automatically be claimed for the player’s side, so "analyzing the enemy battalion placements and efficiently working together with allies" can help push the lines up until they can lay siege to the main enemy camp.

Samurai Warriors 4 Empires will be made available at retail and digitally on PlayStation 4. On PS3 and Vita it will be a download only title. It releases on March 11 in Europe and March 15 in North America.
