Saints Row 3 mod tools are a test for Saints Row 4
Volition are set to release "what is essentially a full sdk" for Saints Row: The Third over the coming months, one of the chief Saints Row modders has revealed.
He claims the release will be a "test run" for releasing an SDK for Saints Row 4. The studio is also looking into old Saints Row 2 documentation to see what they can release for the PC's first outing with the saints.
Jeff Thompson, the studio's Director of Programming and Senior Programmer Mike Wilson will be working together with some of the game's most enthusiastic modders to release "documentation, file formats, tools, and more" for Saints Row: The Third .
In the blog post, modder idolninja likens the package to "essentially a full sdk".
"In simple terms, the modding community will finally be able to create and offer new clothing, new vehicles, new guns, new npcs, new missions, and even new world geometry which will greatly extend the life of the series and enhance the Saints Row games in ways we never even dared to dream of."
idolninja goes on to claim that while Volition's new owners Deep Silver have a reputation for being "fan-centric", the "previous regime’s policies that forbade Volition developers from interacting with the fans at all".
Saints Row 4 launches in August on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.
