S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 'Lost Alpha' mod opens up game world
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Lost Alpha is a new mod for GSC Game World's title currently in development courtesy of modding group Dezowave. The group hopes to restore the spirit of GSC's early alpha concepts for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. which followed a more open, survival horror-based route.
The mod project page opens with the line, "Have you ever dreamt about playing the old, forgotten S.T.A.L.K.E.R.?"
That's the elevator pitch, and the mod hopes to put that missing slice of development history into your hands. An update on the blog explains what the team hopes to accomplish.
Says the post, "We were amazed by GSC's work when they released the first S.T.A.L.K.E.R. screenshots in 2002. The old design, and atmosphere was stunning and we couldn't believe our eyes. Later in 2005 things has changed. They redesigned almost all old levels. Some of them became smaller, simpler (still nice, but different), and some levels were removed.
"After the release in 2007 we played the game a lot, and quickly noticed that some areas are missing. We opened forums, and talked countless nights about those for almost a year."
The update also includes a trailer for the mod, which will not just re-create those lost elements, but will add new features, previously unexplorable areas and much more.
Thanks Dezowave.
