Rumour - Truckload of Modern Warfare 3 highjacked as eBay prices soar
French media reports 6,000 copies of Modern Warfare 3 have been stolen in transit, as pre-release copies of the highly anticipated shooter pull massive eBay prices.
TF1 News cites sources close to the investigation in reporting that €400,000 in games was stolen from a French truck transporting video games on Saturday morning.
Two masked men armed with knives are said to have carried out the heist, luring a pair of distributor employees from their vehicle by staging a car accident before attacking them with tear gas.
Ultimate PS3 claims the truck was filled with copies of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 en route to retailers for launch this week, but did not link to sources; searching on either media outlet turned up no results.
In the build up to release this week, prices for early retail copies of the game have skyrocketed, with MCV reporting one weekend sale brought in $1725.
With priority shipping, the early bird may have gained up to four days lead on the competition.
Prices have cooled somewhat; one seller has sold 18 copies of the game ahead of release date at £54.99.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 releases on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on November 8.
