Rockstar's future will be to "continue doing new things," says Houser

Rockstar creative boss Dan Houser has said "new things" will form the backbone of the company's upcoming projects.

In an interview with Japanese mag Dengeki, Houser said that the main focus at the company will always be to creative good games.

"I think the future for us is to continue doing new things," he said. "Our games up to now have been different from any genre that existed at the time; we made new genres by ourselves with games like the GTA series. We didn't rely on testimonials in a business textbook to do what we've done."

He admitted Rockstar's secret to success was maintaining development teams in a collaborative process.

"All we've done is keep on working with the same teams and the same really talented people -- not just one or two people, but everyone in Rockstar contributed, which I think is really important," said Houser, adding: "Sam [Houser, co-founder and Dan's brother] likes to say that consumers see video games have to be fun if we expect consumers to lay out $50 or so for them, but the focus of my effort has been to make good games first and let the results come naturally after that.

"If we make the sort of games we want to play, then we believe people are going to buy them."

Rockstar has three known efforts in the works at studios around the world: Max Payne 3 in Vancouver; new IP Agent at North in Edinburgh; and Grand Theft Auto V, announced yesterday.

Thanks, 1UP.
