GTA: Rockstar Games wants to combine all cities into one world
Rockstar North president Leslie Benzies has voiced that the developer would like to create a single explorable world that connected all the cities from the Grand Theft Auto series.
In an interview with Digital Trends, courtesy of Polygon, Benzies discusses the history of developing the series along with the locations used, and the chances of seeing Vice City return in other installments. "Of course at some point we would like to have one big world containing all our cities and let the player fly between them and revisit their favorite areas, and in that context reimagining Vice City would be very interesting."
With the recent release of some titles on mobile devices, Benzies hints there may be more from previous releases the company would like to port to mobile devices. "Also the power of mobile technology is increasing so rapidly it is hard to imagine the kind of games we could be releasing for them in years to come," he said. "Whether these are repurposed versions of existing games or entirely new IPs I couldn't say, but if you look at Chinatown Wars you can see that we are always up for the challenge of designing games for new technologies and making the most of all their features, not just their processing power."
Grand Theft Auto is returning to Los Santos from 2004's San Andreas in the next game, Grand Theft Auto 5, out early 2013.
