Rocket League Sideswipe coming to iOS and Android later this year
Psyonix's compellingly playable motorized PvP action game, Rocket League, is heading to iOS and Android as a free-to-play game called Rocket League Sideswipe.
As per the developer, Rocker League Sideswipe has been "built from the ground up for mobile" and aims to deliver the same sort of soccer-meets-driving-game action that the original game did, albeit with a more agreeable control scheme for mobile.
The developer notes that things have been condensed and truncated slightly, as matches are two-minute-long 1v1 or 2v2 setups in the mobile game (instead of including more players, as in the PC and console version) and everything will be viewed side-on instead for the sake of clarity on smaller devices. You can take a look at the whole thing in action below.
Similar to the main game, Sideswipe will be free to play, and if you're keen to try out the game right now you may be in luck: a limited alpha test is available on Android via Google Play to players in Australia and New Zealand now, and Psyonix has announced that more betas in other regions will be rolled out in the coming months.
At the time of writing, there's no formal release date for the game other than '2021', but the developer insists that we're going to hear more about this project sooner, rather than later.
"We can't wait to bring this new take on Rocket League to mobile platforms everywhere," says Psyonix in its announcement post. "Stay tuned for more information in the next few months."
