Rocket League reveals its latest virtual reality-themed prototype map
Intended to be launched for the casual Rocket Labs playlist, Pillars is a new map with a nod to virtual reality in its design. The arena's walls and floors have an old-school computer asthetic that wouldn't look like out place in a polished version of Tron.
Outside of visual design, players will have to deal with quite literal pillars on the gameplay front. Two large uprights tower over the arena, separating the entire map into three lanes that require defending. And since Rocket League players can drive on the walls, these pillars are a simple way to allow for new gameplay strategies - such as dodging around a vehicle by rushing along the new walls.
Pillars is the first map for the casual Rocket Labs playlist, where players can test out prototype map designs with these VR art assets. Outside of granting players access to new maps quickly, it also gives Psyonix an idea which maps are preferred by the community, which can then be redesigned with full artwork. Additional Rocket Labs maps are expected to be revealed this June.
