Rock Band iOS App to be unplayable after May 31

Users who own the Rock Band iOS app have received notice that the game will “no longer be playable” after May 31 via pop up message when loading it up. While EA has yet to officially respond to the matter, and its seems a bit odd that someone would no longer be granted access a purchased game and the purchased DLC, The Guardian notes EA shuttering of the game is "not an isolated example."

The Rock Band app can be purchased for $4.99 on iTunes, and was recently on sale for half-off.

Guardian cites EA's iOS social game Restaurant City: Gourmet Edition as an example which will be closed down on June 29. This means if a player purchased virtual goods for it via the Facebook version of the title, they loose those along with the game.

ngmoco will also be shutting down its iOS freemium game Eliminate on May 25, another game

The aforementioned games as just two such examples of games consumers purchased virtual items for and will no longer have access to.

Users on Rockbandaide, which was the first site to report on the matter, seem to think the closure has something to do with the licensing agreements. Instead of EA renewing terms with the record companies, it will instead let the contracts expire.

Until EA releases an official statement on the matter, it's anyone's guess as to why it purchasers will be barred from playing their game from May 31.

The Rock Band app was released in October 2009 and as of press time the game is still available for purchase, despite the impending closure.
