Nintendo has heard your requests to put Robin Williams in The Legend of Zelda

The Legend of Zelda may or may not have an NPC named in honour of the late, great Robin Williams, but Nintendo is at least aware of the demand.

The Legend of Zelda fans have gathered together over 100,000 signatures on a Change.org petition calling for a tribute to Williams in the next series entry.

While Nintendo can't commit to any such undertaking at present, it has issued a statement to Polygon acknowledging the demand.

"We appreciate the outpouring of support from the gaming community, and hear the request of fans to honour him in a future game," a representative said.

"We will not be discussing what might be possible for future games during this difficult time, but we will hold our memories of Robin close."

The spokesperson also said that Williams "was loved at Nintendo", and extended condolences to his family.

"Our hearts go out to his entire family, and especially to Zelda Williams who we've worked with multiple times," Nintendo said.

Hopefully's Nintendo reluctance to commit is just the usual careful PR speak of a big company, which has to mind its promises and legal obligations carefully. After all, Blizzard has said it will action a request to have William memorialised in World of Warcraft.

Williams was reported dead last week. He was 63.
