League of Legends' Riot Games to pay $10 million to settle gender discrimination suit

Riot Games has settled the gender discrimination lawsuit employees had filed against it last year.

League of Legends developer Riot Games, who has been caught in a legal fight with staff over discrimination allegations, has agreed to pay $10 million to settle the lawsuit.

The parties involved actually agreed to the settlement back in August, but details of the filings are being revealed now as part of a Los Angeles Times report.

All of those who worked at riot from November 2014 until the settlement is concluded, who also identify as women - around 1,000 - will receive a share of the $10 million pool, to be decided based on their time at the company, and whether they're full-time employees or contractors.

The suit first began when two women alleged systemic discrimination and a culture of sexism at Riot, which caused them to sue their employer in November 2018. Part of this was revealed in a Kotaku report right around the same time, which painted a picture of a hostile environment at Riot for women.

All that's left now is for a judge to approve the finer details before Riot can pay the $10 million.
