Retronauts Micro Ensnares Tecmo's Deception into its Dark Web of Discussion
On this week's bite-sized episode of USgamer's classic gaming podcast, we take a look at Tecmo's long-running Home Alone simulator.
This article first appeared on USgamer, a partner publication of VG247. Some content, such as this article, has been migrated to VG247 for posterity after USgamer's closure - but it has not been edited or further vetted by the VG247 team.
Even though it's been around for two decades, to date, there's nothing quite like the Deception series.
And if you've never played it before, no, it's not exclusively about a gothic maid with a mystical arm—that's just the only art from the series I could find online that wouldn't make you vomit when blown up to a respectable size. Since 1996, this Tecmo production has tasked players with fighting off home invaders with a collection of nefarious traps, and it's been one of those rare series that's actually gotten better over the years. But even if it didn't, Deception would still be remembered as one of the more unique premises for a video game—and one that's yet to be copied.
That's all the preambling I'll allow, seeing as I don't want to steal any more fire from the nine-minute podcast I put together.
