Respawn makes second Hollywood art hire

Respawn Entertainment has recruited another Hollywood artist to its fold, adding Men in Black and 12 Monkeys veteran Matt Codd as art director.

Respawn revealed the hire in an interview posted on the developer's website.

"As far as I’m concerned whether it's video games or movies, good design isn’t all that matters. It’s all about trying to be original in this day and age which is really difficult because everything has been done at some point or another," Codd said.

Codd has not worked in the games industry before but said movie production is "so speeded up" that it's not as interesting as games.

"The time that’s put aside to video games is far more interesting and more fascinating to look at. A lot of the guys that I know in movies, we see a lot of game design and think 'that’s awesome and I wish we were doing that in movies.'"

The artists listed the original Medal of Honor, Doom and Gears of War as among his favourite games, but said he's had to give them up or spend all night playing.

Kotaku dug up Codd's website, where you'll find plenty of eye candy including some in the sci-fi vein Respawn is shooting for.

Back in May, Respawn managed to lure in concept artist Iain McCraig, who designed such iconic characters as Star Wars' Queen Amidala and Darth Maul.

The studio, largely composed of former Infinity Ward staffers, is working on a futuristic shooter to be publised by EA.

Thanks, Gamespot.
