Resident Evil Village has shipped over 4 million units
After launching on May 7, Capcom has announced that Resident Evil Village has shipped over 4 million units – not bad for a game that's not even been out for a month.
Capcom’s latest entry in the long-running and world-renowned survival horror franchise is doing incredibly well for the company, living up to recent releases like Resident Evil 7, Resident Evil 2 Remake, and Monster Hunter World.
Today, Capcom confirmed via press release that the PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC game has shipped a massive 4 million units. The figure includes shipments to retailers, as well as direct digital sales. It also puts the game on track to knock Resident Evil 7 off its throne as the best-selling Resident Evil game within just a few months if this momentum keeps up.
We heard just last week that the game had managed to cross the 3 million sales mark, pushing the Resident Evil series as a whole well over the 100 million sales point.
The game's success can be attributed to its strong critical reception and the promise of more PvP content to come in the form of Resident Evil Re:Verse. It seems that having a strong initial offering and a long tail is appealing very to players around the world.
"Taken alone, any one slice of the game – like a single house, the village itself, even the way combat handles – has its issues. But combined, it merges into something that’s still special – even if it isn’t quite as brilliant as Resident Evil 7 or 2 Remake. It’s an easy recommendation – though if you didn’t back in 2017, you might want to play RE7 first,” wrote Alex in our Resident Evil Village review.
