How to Get the Lock Picks in Resident Evil 3

The lock picks are a necessary item to proceed in the game, but they can also be used to open up optional areas and access new equipment and resources, similar to the Bolt Cutters. You'll encounter locks that need the picks to open some time before actually getting access to the picks, so don't worry about them yet.

Where to Find the Lock Picks

The lock picks are found in the Subway Power Substation, after clearing the Alley Fire in the Downtown area. Head through the building and they'll be on the other side of the safe room. Go down the stairs and you'll see a corpse slumped in the corner with a box in its lap. Go up the corpse and interact with it to get the box. Open it and the lock picks will be inside.

How to Use the Lock Picks

The lock picks can be used on any of the yellow locks. Approach it and interact with it, then select the lock picks when your inventory opens up. Don't worry about being attacked; time and enemies will stop during this process and only start again when the lock is opened.

Where to Use Lock Picks

There's a door just next to you that leads into the ghastly parasite maze and has to be opened to beat the game, but there are numerous other locks in the game, such as the Toy Store near the beginning of the game or the locker in the Subway safe house. They'll be marked on your map when you get close with an exclamation point and the icon "Simple Lock".

How Many Uses Does a Lock Pick Have?

Good news! Unlike many games wherein lock picks are a finite resource or break after use, here you can use this set infinitely without losing it or breaking it. However, it will use a space in your inventory, so you'll have to hold less ammo and healing items in the process.
