Report - Virgin to return to games industry
MCV's reporting that Virgin is set to make a comeback to the games industry, beginning at E3 in three weeks time.
According to the site, Sir Richard Branson is set to attend a launch party in Los Angeles to mark the return of the brand.
Virgin Games was set up by the billionaire in 1984 under the guidance of Nick Alexander, building partnerships with partners such as Bethesda, Capcom, Disney and more.
It fought it out with EA for market leadership in the UK and Europe between 1994 and 1998, with UK market share for Virgin thought to be in the region of 16 percent at one point.
Since 2004, however, the only thing Virgin has been working with that's closely related to gaming is Virgin Games, focusing on online, brower-based games for real prizes.
But the new Virgin games effort, according to MCV, is looking to broker new partnerships with big publishers and content owners, with the plan to be an online-only brand across all of the leading consoles.
The firm has refused to comment on the potential return.
