Report: Six bidders interested in GAME's UK arm
At least six bidders are interested in taking over the UK arm of GAME, according to a Retail Week report.
The report (via MCV) quips GameStop as top of the list, but also mentions Hilco and OpCapita as potential suiters.
The US retailer had been rumoured for a takeover in regards to the retailer, but Comet owner OpCapita had placed a bit for the UK shop. That was turned down by its lenders, including the RBS.
MCV's reporting a bid from GameStop is being held by a fear a takeover it could own too many stores in France. GAME has 200 stores under its control in the country, while the GameStop-controlled Micromania has 300 stores.
Bringing the two chains under one umbrella would mean a similar situation to GAME-GameStation in the UK.
GAME entered into administration yesterday morning. An administrator is due to be announced today.
