Report - Old Tomb Raider script called Cryptids, starred Sarah

The endless fun that is old Crystal Dynamics documents has turned up what seems to be an earlier version of the Tomb Raider script, titled Cryptids.

Uncovered by Siliconera, the protagonist of the Cryptids script is named "Sarah", and shows a bolder personality than Lara Croft does in the newer revision.

A cryptid - derived from a word meaning "hide" - is a creature unrecognised by science but garnering belief elsewhere, whether mythological, undiscovered, believed to have survived extinction in remote places, or just plain made up.

The script's title may mean nothing more than a reference to its disguise as a non-Tomb Raider game, or could refer to the game's enemies.

Siliconera previously obtained an allegedly leaked portion of the Tomb Raider script, and was permitted to post details after discussion with Square Enix, lending some credibility to both sets of documents.

The site's analysis of the fresh discovery against the leaked script reveals near-identical sequences.

Crystal Dynamics is known to have been working on a survival horror game, and to have reused some of the ideas and material of this unannounced title for the Tomb Raider reboot.

Tomb Raider, a total reboot of the franchise, is currently hazily dated for 2011 on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, and is expected to be one of E3's biggest games.
