Imagine this: Jim Carrey as Dr. Eggman in the upcoming live-action Sonic movie. Sounds rad, yes?
Deadline reports from sources knowledgeable about the project that actor Jim Carrey is in negotiations to play the classic Sonic villain for the feature film adaptation of the Sega video game series.
Paramount film is currently readying a live-action/animation hybrid, Sonic the Hedgehog movie starring Westworld's James Marsden alongside a presumably CGI Sonic the Hedgehog. Carrey, if cast, will play Sonic's longtime enemy Dr. Eggman. It's unknown if Carrey will play a live-action version of the character or voice a CGI character.
The Sonic the Hedgehog movie is being directed by Jeff Fowler with Deadpool director Tim Miller serving as one of the producers. The film also recently cast Tika Sumpter opposite Marsden in an undisclosed role.
Sonic the Hedgehog is a long-running video game franchise from Sonic that follows a speedy blue hedgehog as he tries to prevent Dr. Eggman from stealing the Chaos Emeralds. The Sonic games have spanned platformers, racing games, RPGs, and action-adventure games.
Carrey is best known for his roles in comedy films like Dumb and Dumber, The Truman Show, and How the Grinch Stole Christmas. He's also done more dramatic films like The Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind.
