Reggie: 3DS will be "mass-market" 3D

Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime has said the 3DS is set to become the first mainstream 3D device.

“Right now, 3-D is not mass-market. In our view, Nintendo 3DS will be the first mass-market 3-D device,” he told The New York Times.

Despite acknowledging increasing pressure from the smartphone market, Fils-Aime was adamant that the 3DS goes above and beyond current offerings.

"Consumers have a limited amount of time every day to invest in entertainment,” he said. “Therefore we’ve got to bring out more compelling entertainment experiences than what others are doing.”

Fils-Aime described the 3DS as being in a "category of one", highlighting the geographically relevant potential of the 3DS’s communication features and the accessibility of the 3D camera. He commented that NOA are working with video partners to deliver 3D video services in the future.
