Redbox app hitting PS3 today
The PlayStation 3 has four billion video apps, but not all of them. In today's PlayStation Store update, Sony is adding another one, however, in the form of the Redbox Instant app.
A subscription service in the vein of Netflix, Redbox Instant allows access to a streaming library of movies for $8. While its library is not nearly as expansive nor of comparable quality as that of Netflix, A Redbox subscriptions also nets the user four free DVD movie rentals from kiosks per month (each of which grants $1.15 toward the more expensive blu-ray or game rentals), which severely adds to its usefulness since the kiosks contain just-released movies that aren't available on Netflix.
Aside from the subscription service, the Redbox app will also allow the reservation of movies and games at the kiosks should you want to do that. You don't need the sub for that function.
Redbox will also be on Vita and PS4 at some point.
