Red Dead Redemption 2 Strange Man explained: Who is the man in the mirror and the creepy painting?

You can have a unique, unsettling encounter with a strange man in RDR2. Here's how.

Red Dead Redemption 2 features a range of creepy and mysterious goings-on, but the Strange Man you'll - at some point - see in a mirror and a creepy painting might be the most sinister yet.

So far, we've seen a vampire in Saint Denis, we've tracked down a serial killer, and we've even had a close encounter with a UFO in Red Dead Redemption 2.

In this particular guide, we detail everything you need to know about the Strange Man in Red Dead Redemption 2, but be warned of late-game story spoilers.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Strange Man explained

This strange happening involves paying a visit to an abandoned hut in Lemoyne, which is marked by a small blue house icon on the below map.

Once inside, you'll see walls covered in writing that talks of a place known as Armadillo, as well as about New Austin.

While visiting this particular hut as Arthur Morgan, you'll see a bizarre, unfinished painting of the Strange Man who we can only assume this hut once belonged to.

If you keep revisiting the place later in the game (after reaching the epilogue), you will notice that the painting keeps evolving as days go by, getting more and more complete. You'll make notes of it in your journal, and when it is finally complete, you can take a look in the nearby mirror and try not to s**t your pants.

The man you can see is the Strange Man from the first Red Dead Redemption game, who is a supernatural character who seemingly knows John Marston's final resting place before he even dies.

You can also encounter a camper in New Austin who talks about seeing the Strange Man in his peripheral vision. He'll believe that the Strange Man is a Grim Reaper of sorts, and suggests that he is the reason for the cholera outbreak in the town of New Austin.

If you visit Herbert Moon's store during this time, too, you'll also find that he has a painting of the Strange Man in stock which you can ask about.

That's it for the Strange Man encounter in Red Dead Redemption 2! What's the weirdest secret you've found in the game? Let us know in the comments.
