Red Dead Online Gold - How to Get Gold Fast in Red Dead Online

You can save time in Red Dead Online by getting Gold Bars. Here’s everything you need to know.

When Red Dead Online launched into beta, there was some confusion over its temporary microtransaction currency. It's called Gold, and at present, can be earned in-game and used to buy certain items. It's often offered as a shortcut to earning dollars, as you can choose to spend Gold bars to unlock items early. To help you get your head around exactly how Gold works in Red Dead Online, we've put together this Red Dead Online Gold Guide.

Red Dead Online Free Gold Update

When Red Dead Online launched, its economy was criticized for being a little too stingy. Rockstar answered these concerns by lowering the prices of weapons, horses and priovisions, and even gave players some free Gold and Cash. Players who played Red Dead Online from Nov. 27 through midnight PST Dec. 6 get $250 of cash, as well as 15 Gold bars. Not only that, but if you've spent any money so far, you'll be refunded the difference between the old and new prices.

Red Dead Online Microtransactions

There are Microtransactions in Red Dead Online. The associated currency is Gold, which can be used to purchase items before you unlock them by levelling up. There are a number of different ways to get Gold, and a lot of different ways you can spend it.

Red Dead Redemption Online Gold - How to Get More Gold

Gold is a separate currency in Red Dead Online, and there are a number of ways you can get it. Firstly, you’ll receive small amounts of Gold for completing missions. You can also find Gold as part of some Treasure Hunt tasks. Collecting it in these ways is extremely slow, and you’ll likely need to grind for hours to get a single weapon.

Getting Gold from Daily Challenges in Red Dead Online

The fastest way to make gold is through Red Dead Online's Daily Challenges, randomly-determined tasks which will award you 0.20 gold bars for each one. You can find the Daily Challenges by pressing right on the D-Pad and selecting the option by that name, telling you what you can do. There's ten challenges per day, but more are made available for every one of the frontier roles you've unlocked, as well as a larger bonus of Gold for completing all of the day's challenges.

You can also get more Gold by doing challenges regularly, as Red Dead Online starts awarding Gold Multipliers to players who complete at least one challenge every day. Do at least one per day for a week, and all the gold you start making will get a 50% bonus. Do it for two weeks, and it'll rise by 100%. This caps out after a month, at which point you'll be making two and a half times the amount of gold you normally would and getting free treasure maps with it, but if you miss a challenge for just a single day, all your progress resets and you'll have to start rebuilding your streak fom the beginning.

Can You Buy More Gold in Red Dead Online

What’s the Difference Between Gold Bars and Gold Nuggets?

You may see mentions of Golden Nuggets around while out exploring. Gold Nuggets are to Gold Bars what cents are to dollars. There are 100 nuggets to a bar. You’ll usually get Nuggets for mission rewards, though if you’re lucky you’ll find Gold Bars around too.

What Can You Buy With Gold in Red Dead Online?

So what exactly can you buy with Gold in Red Dead Online? Well, it’s mostly used to purchase horses, weapons and clothing. You’ll see a Gold Bar icon next to items that can be purchased in the Catalogue. Not everything can be bought in this way, but Gold will give you access to higher level gear. Hold down the left trigger/L2 button when looking at an item in the catalogue, and you'll get the option to pay gold instead of cash, or to unlock it if you haven't ranked high enough yet.
