Rainbow Six: Patriots still in development, says Ubisoft

With Sam Fisher sneaking/shooting/dog-throwing his way across screens from today, you might have forgotten about Ubisoft's other Tom Clancy franchise. Luckily they haven't. Fresh news from gamescom tells us that Rainbow Six: Patriots is still very much in the pipeline.

Talking to IGN, executive director Alain Corre said the project is "still cooking." "It’s an important franchise for Ubisoft. We want to make sure, on this one, like all the other games we’re working on, that we bring it when we feel it’s perfect."

When asked if the game will have the same premise as when it was originally developed, Corre was non-committal. "What we want is to have a compelling story. We want people who play the next Rainbow 6 to be astonished, to be very pleased with what they see."

He goes on to say that Ubisoft wants to make "something worth waiting for," and that it'll only be finalised when they're completely happy with it.

It's easy to speculate if the game has had development troubles since it was first revealed at the end of December 2011. Whether the case or not, it's refreshing to hear a major developer talk about holding a project back until it's ready to go, rather than rushing it out for the sake of fitting a timeline. Hopefully we'll find out more about the game soon.
