PUBG will not support individual map selection post-Sanhok because of how it affects queues
PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds currently lets you choose which map you want to play, but that's going to change soon.
PUBG introduced map selection just recently, allowing players to choose between queuing for original map Erangel or the more recently released Miramar. This has been good for players who aren't fond of either map, or simply have a preference.
But when the next map, Sanhok, releases next week, that's going to have to change - the number of separate queues this is creating is not sustainable for the game.
The situation has been clarified by a dev letter over on Steam, which states that splitting these lobbies was causing issues for some players. "The matchmaking pool gets split into many small sections, making it nearly impossible to put together a match in at least some of those queues", it reads.
However, Bluehole recognizes that players will be keen to jump right into Sanhok, the next new map, with better odds than one in three. When Sanhok launches, there will be three different options available - play Sanhok by itself, jump into a playlist that will throw you into one of the two other maps, or have a chance at ending up in any out of the three. It's fair to assume that once Sanhok has been out for a while, map choice could go away entirely - at least, until a fourth map hits this winter.
Sanhok will release in the PC version of the game on June 22. The Xbox One version will release towards the end of US summer (so probably around August).
