PSA - Dead Island PC patch wipes save files

A patch released earlier today for the Steam version of Dead Island will wipe out any progress made so far.
TechLand has added a chapter select function to try and compensate for the loss of your data, and DailyDead has word Deep Silver intends some kind of compensation package for those affected.
The patch's purpose was to correct the accidental release of an elderly development build instead of the finished game.
