PS4 to be playable at consumer events during 2013

Sony Computer Entertainment American boss Jack Tretton has promised consumers will be able to go hands-on with the PlayStation 4 throughout the year.

Speaking with Bloomberg in the wake of the PS4's reveal, Tretton confirmed the "a lot of playable content" console will be on show at E3 2013 - a bit of a no-brainer, really.

More interestingly for regular punters, he promised consumer hands-on over the course of 2013.

"Most people will be able to [get their hands on the PS4 before November]," Tretton said. "We know who our consumers are and we're going to get it to them."

Tretton's comments may refer to in-store demos and similar marketing promotions, but it's also likely to presage appearances at consumer events like gamescom in August, the Tokyo Game Show and Eurogamer Expo in September.

Tretton was otherwise cagey throughout the interview, defending the PS4's somewhat mainstream-unfriendly reveal, politely welcoming Microsoft's competition, and refusing to be drawn on price.

Thanks, Johnny.
