PS4 and Xbox One lure devs back from PC, mobile - survey

Developers abandoned consoles towards the end of the last generation, but sexy new hardware is bringing them back.

PS4 and Xbox One will play a major part in developers' future plans, according to a new TIGA survey.

As reported by GamesIndustry, 52% of responding developers said they plan to make games for Xbox One in the future, and 48% intend the same for PS4.

At present, only 17% are working on Xbox One games, and 15% on PS4.

That might seem a little low, but it's worth noting that several past surveys (such as this one, or this one, or this one) suggested developers were were more interested in PC and tablets than consoles.

The trend seems to be reversing now, though. Although over 70% of respondents are making games for iDevices, only about 63% intend to continue doing so, so there's a bit of a drop off there.

63% of developers are making PC games, but again, only about 48% intend to continue.

So growth for consoles, and shrinkage on other platforms - quite the reversal. Swings and merry go rounds; it may go back the other way by the end of the generation.
