PS3: 5 million consoles sold in the UK
Sony has sold more than five million PS3 consoles in the UK alone, the company can reveal.
MCV reports that Sony UKs managing director Fergal Gara said, "It is fantastic that we passed the 5m mark. But most importantly to me is not the milestone itself, but the fact that there is momentum behind it. And with the new chassis, and the way the market is panning out this year, PlayStation definitely has the momentum.”
On the subject of Sony's ever-expanding family of execs from around the business, Gara continued, “I am pleased with the talent we’ve got on board. You can actually feel the energy going through the business."
"These guys know that they have a lot to do to make sure the Christmas plans are sharp and focused, and they have come to them relatively late. So they are working at a hell of a pace. I can already feel a positive buzz that wasn’t there only a few weeks ago.”
It comes after Sony released its new PS3 Super Slim model, which rejuvenated the UK retail sector when it launched September 28th, bumping up PS3 sales in the UK by 138% - a large leap we're sure you'll agree.
Sony's acquisition of Gaikai also points to a potentially earth-shaking direction for the company, as the cloud-streaming company's new website suggests. The relaunched portal is full of Sony IP, hinting at bigger things to come.
